Brief about Himachal Unit...........
GBPIHED has four functional units in Indian Himalayan region Himachal Unit is one among them, functioning from 1st July 1992 focusing on Sustainable Development of Rural Systems, Land and Water Resource Management, Conservation of Biological Diversity and Ecological Economics & Environmental impact analysis. At present the unit scientists are working on following programmes:
Studies on Biodiversity, Habitat Fragmentation and Conservation in the Protected and Ecologically Sensitive Habitats of Himachal.
Traditional soil and water conservation techniques of the Kullu and Lahaul valleys in the North Western Himalaya, Establishment, Maintenance and Monitoring of Experimental Herbal Garden and Medicinal Plant Nurseries, and ex-situ cultivation trials in H.P.
Environmental assessment of hydropower projects in the Beas valley of Himachal Pradesh.
Workers’ exposure to air borne dust and other pollutants in the Kullu valley.
Cultivation of Medicinal Plants, Land Restoration and Socio-economic Upliftment of Farmers of the Kullu Valley.
Climatic changes in Kullu and Lahaul valleys (ENVIS activities)
