It is envisaged to be a countrywide programme to be implemented in about 10,000 schools.

In the pilot phase, a Pilot Experiment is being taken up in one hundred schools in Uttaranchal. The central theme of the programme is mountain meteorlolgy and programme would be called Uttaranchal-PROBE or U-PROBE.Uttaranchal being a mountain state, the theme is appropriate and relevant.United Nations had proclaimed 2002 as International Year of Mountains(IYM).

  • To create a database on meteorology, climate, natural resources and related fields for building village/water shed level data infrastructure.
  • To generate data/gather information and convert such information into useful knowledge.
  • To contribute to scientific understanding of weather and climate in mountain regions and study their local impacts.
  • To use data/information gathering as a means of generating interest in science.
