The Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Management of G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Almora organized a sensitization workshop from 3-9 December, 2025 in different valleys (Chaudas, Vyas, Darma) of Pithoragarh District, Uttarakhand. The programme was conducted under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) funded project entitled “Promotion of High Value Medicinal Plants Cultivation, Post Harvest Management and Value Addition in the Indian Himalayan Region”. During the programme, a team of researchers and scientists provided agro-technique training on different key species like Saussurea costus (Kuth), Angelica glauca (Gandrayani), Picrorhiza kurroa (Kutki) and Hedychium spicatum (Van haldi), and also distributed seeds to the participating farmers. The participants were also sensitized towards conservation of biodiversity, qualitative production of medicinal plant, market demand, value chain dynamics, and voluntary certification scheme for medicinal plant produce. Furthermore, several villages across the three valleys were identified and selected for medicinal plant cultivation. A total of 35 local farmers actively participated in the program and expressed their willingness to support the institute initiative in future.
