Services

Medicinal plant nursery and herbal garden "Surya-Kunj" Nursery

The centre has established an ex-situ conservation/Herbal at the 'Surya-Kunj' with an aim to: (i) ensure availability of base material for in-depth research on the phytochemical and genetic attributes of these MPs, (ii) develop reproducible propagation protocols for developing elite planting material, (iii) cater to the need of locals for promotion of medicinal plant cultivation, and (iv) impart knowledge and build capacity of diverse stakeholder on conservation and sustainable utilization of MPs.

Ph.D guidance/Internship/Dissertation

Faculty of CBCM provide guidance to young researchers for Ph.D. work and also mentor post graduate/graduate students for internship/dissertation

Tissue Culture Lab

Centre has a one of plant propagation’s “Tissue culture” facility which is being utilized for mass propagation of threatened and important plant is being carried out for raising quality medicinal plants.

Laboratory

Provide three laboratory access (Nodal Networking facilites lab, Analytical laboratory,Soil laboratory, Plant assesment laboratory) free to local students and researchers from partner organizations/ local stakeholders.

Advisory Services

Advisory services are provided to local partner organizations/ stakeholders on various environmental aspects.

Nature Interpretation & Learning Centre (NILC)

Nature Interpretation and Learning Centre (NILC) have been established with an aim to promote conservation awareness and education among different stakeholder groups, especially, students, teachers, farmers, government and non-government officials, citizen scientist and other visitors.

Major Achievements

Conservation of Biodiversity & Livelihood Enhancement

Conservation of threatened and high value medicinal plants is one of the major initiatives undertaken by the Institute for promoting their cultivation and harnessing potential in right perspectives. A cluster based approach is initiated for cultivation of medicinal plants in the Jyoli, Bamnigad, Khoont, Dhamas villages of Almora district, and Chaudas valley Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Under this initiative, the Institute is succeeded in motivating 200 farmers' families for cultivation of different multipurpose and threatened medicinal plant species in 150 nali land. Institute also initiate the certification of cultivated MAPs produced under the VCSMPP scheme of the Quality Council of India, New Delhi, and establishing buyback arrangements with Government/Non-Government agencies to sell the produce at a better price. Synergy also developed with the government agencies to help the inhabitants incorporate medicinal plant cultivation into the ongoing schemes and take advantage of it for improving their livelihood.

Propagation Packages of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs)

Standardization and development of propagation packages (Plant Tissue Culture, Vegetative Propagation Technique, and Seed germination) of about 78 high value Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs).

Establishment of High-Altitude Germplasm repositories

Total 15 high-value Himalayan species maintained at Sri Narayan Ashram, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
