Major Achievements
Conservation of Biodiversity & Livelihood Enhancement
Conservation of threatened and high value medicinal plants is one of the major initiatives undertaken by the Institute for promoting their cultivation and harnessing potential in right perspectives. A cluster based approach is initiated for cultivation of medicinal plants in the Jyoli, Bamnigad, Khoont, Dhamas villages of Almora district, and Chaudas valley Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Under this initiative, the Institute is succeeded in motivating 200 farmers' families for cultivation of different multipurpose and threatened medicinal plant species in 150 nali land. Institute also initiate the certification of cultivated MAPs produced under the VCSMPP scheme of the Quality Council of India, New Delhi, and establishing buyback arrangements with Government/Non-Government agencies to sell the produce at a better price. Synergy also developed with the government agencies to help the inhabitants incorporate medicinal plant cultivation into the ongoing schemes and take advantage of it for improving their livelihood.
Propagation Packages of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs)
Standardization and development of propagation packages (Plant Tissue Culture, Vegetative Propagation Technique, and Seed germination) of about 78 high value Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs).
Establishment of High-Altitude Germplasm repositories
Total 15 high-value Himalayan species maintained at Sri Narayan Ashram, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
