GBPNIHE Celebrates World Environment Day 2026 with Students

The GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), Kosi-Katarmal, Almora, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 by organizing a special outreach programme titled “A Day with Students: Reading Nature’s Signals for a Sustainable Future.” The programme was conducted in line with this year’s global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The event brought together around 80 students and teachers from 14 schools across the district to promote environmental awareness, climate literacy, and sustainable living practices. Participants attended expert talks, interactive discussions, field-based learning activities, and laboratory visits that provided firsthand exposure to Himalayan ecosystems, biodiversity, soil, water, and climate-related observations. Addressing the students, scientists and experts emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, climate adaptation, and responsible citizenship. The programme also featured the Mission LiFE Pledge, Swachhta Pledge, awareness activities on reducing single-use plastics, and a plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. The initiative served as a valuable platform for inspiring young minds to connect with nature, understand environmental challenges, and contribute towards building a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
