Capacity Building Programme on Hydroponics (Flowers and Medicinal Crops) 2026 The EIACP Centre on Himalayan Ecology, G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBP-NIHE), Kosi-Katarmal, Almora, organized a five-day Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on “Hydroponics: Flowers and Medicinal Crops.” A total of 22 participants took part in the programme, which aimed to enhance their technical knowledge and practical skills in modern hydroponic technologies and sustainable agricultural practices. The programme was inaugurated through a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony (Deep Prajwalan) in the presence of the Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Almora, Er. M. S. Lodhi (EIACP Coordinator), and Dr. Lalit Giri (Technical Assistant-II). The participants were welcomed by Dr. Maheshanand, Programme Officer, EIACP Centre. During the inaugural session, Er. M. S. Lodhi highlighted the role of the EIACP Centre in environmental awareness, knowledge dissemination, and capacity-building initiatives, while the Chief Horticulture Officer, Almora, discussed entrepreneurship opportunities, government schemes, and financial assistance available for establishing hydroponic farming units.
The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Lalit Giri, Mr. Martolia, Mr. Prakash Singh, Dr. Rabindra Joshi, and Dr. Sumit Purohit. The sessions covered various aspects of hydroponic cultivation, including hydroponic systems, protected cultivation, nutrient and water management, flower and medicinal plant production, crop management, and entrepreneurship development. The programme also included educational and field-based exposure visits to Katarmal, Jageshwar Dham, and the Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology (UCB), Patwadanger, Nainital. Participants gained hands-on experience in hydroponic system installation, nutrient solution management, growing media preparation, and commercial soilless cultivation techniques. The five-day programme successfully integrated theoretical learning, practical demonstrations, and field exposure, providing participants with valuable insights into hydroponic farming and its potential for promoting sustainable cultivation and livelihood opportunities in the Himalayan region.
