The Center for Land and Water Resource Management (CLWRM), G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE), undertook a Swachhata Hi Seva activity at Dak Bangla Dhara on 24 September 2026. The program brought CLWRM and EIACP personnel together to clean the site and reinforce the importance of responsible waste management around a public water source. Dak Bangla Dhara is located adjacent to NH-87E and is used by numerous travelers for drinking water. Spring also supplies water to the GBPNIHE arboretum and Surya Kunj, the institute’s ex situ conservation site. Its use by travelers and its role in supporting these green spaces make cleanliness in and around the Dhara particularly important. The activity highlighted the shared responsibility of keeping such water sources and their surroundings free from litter.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari, Sc-D, with support from Er. Vaibhav Gosavi, Sc-D, and Er. Himanshu Joshi, Sc-C, of CLWRM. A total of 20 people attended, comprising six women and fourteen men. Participants removed approximately 29 kg of waste from the site: 8 kg of glass waste, 14 kg of plastic waste, and 7 kg of other waste. Plastic made up the largest share of the waste collected, highlighting the importance of responsible plastic waste management at this frequently used roadside location. All attendees took the Swachhata Pledge. The program concluded with a collective commitment to Mission LiFE and to practicing civic responsibility in managing solid waste, especially plastic waste. Participants committed to carrying these values into their day-to-day lives and raising awareness among others about cleanliness, civic sense, and responsible waste handling.
